American Standard Furnace – Troubleshoot

Homeowners can perform simple American Standard Furnace troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance. If the repair is complicated than it should be performed by licensed technicians or furnace dealers because incorrect repairs can lead to home fires and other safety hazards. Before contact the repairman you have troubleshoot your American Standard Furnace to determine the problem.
There are troubleshoots usually occurred with your furnace:
No Airflow
- Feel around the American Standard Furnace to see if there is any air coming through the vent and if there is no air circulation, you need to contact a repair person, as the indoor air blower is not correctly operating and may need replaced.
- Make sure nothing block the airflow around the unit and trim any close hedges and remove and grass clippings or debris that may have collected around the vent.
- Change your furnace air filter because dirty or broken air filters will block the airflow in your unit. Make sure you check your furnace air filters regularly according to the standard manual from the furnace model.
Not Heating
- Make call to your gas company to see if your gas has been turned off as this occur if there any construction work in your area. If there is no construction work then you can request the gas company to turn on your gas or fix your gas line.
- Check out what temperature you have your thermostat set at and make sure it’s not turned off or the temperature is not set incorrectly. Look to see what the time setting is on your unit if your thermostat is programmable.
- Make sure your American Standard Furnace unit is unplugged especially after you do any work or was being done around your furnace.
- Get your American Standard model’s product manual. Read up the reference of product manuals and examine this manual for troubleshooting tips unique to your model of furnace.
- To reset any lockout issues on your American Standard Furnace you have to turn the power on and off twice in 30 seconds.
- Try to open and close the blower door, if this door is not secure or is missing, the unit may not run appropriately.
Not Cooling
- Make sure you have closed all of the windows in your house because cool air may be escaping from your home right out the window.
- To see if there is any air circulating, you can move your hand around the American Standard Furnace and if this air is not cool, it is likely that the coils on your furnace have frozen. You have to turn the unit off and allow the line to thaw and if this keeps occurring, you will need to contact your dealer or a repairman.
- You have to make sure that you have set correctly the temperature on your thermostat.
Tips & Warnings
- Always keep the area around your furnace clear to allow the necessary air flow around your unit.
- Keep your flammable materials including insulation away from your furnace unit
- You should check the fuses and the circuit breakers if it has been tripped or needs to be replaced.
- Leave your house and contact your gas company immediately if you smell gas around your furniture.
- To avoid the void furnace warranty, always use the experienced repairmen to repair your American Standard Furnace unit.
