The Importance to Change Your Furnace Air Filter Regularly

If you use regularly furnace heat at your home or throughout the winter then you have to make sure that your heater’s filters are changed regularly. Changing your Furnace Air Filter is simple and quick task that you can do by yourself.

You have to change your furnace filters on a monthly basis based on manufacturer general recommendation. If you are unsure with the frequency filter change for your heater’s model then read up and follow your furnace manual about the recommended filter maintenance schedule. When it is the time, read instruction manual to make sure that the proper sequence of actions to change the furnace air filter on your particular model are followed.

Steps taken to change a furnace air filter:

Step 1 – disconnect the power of your electricity before you perform any furnace maintenance, including Furnace Air Filter change. If you use gas heater then you should shut down your gas line connection before applying any furnace maintenance or filter changes.

Step 2 – open the furnace blower door as describe in your furnace model.

Step 3 – your furnace filter should be clearly visible after the blower door opened. Simply remove out the old filter, you can see clearly the removed air filter condition whether it need to be replace or just clean it up the dirt and other particles from the air that flows through your heater system. But if the filter is coated black then it’s time to replace it with the new one.

Step 4 – if your filter extremely clogged then you have to check other accumulation in the blower itself and in the venting system surrounding your heater unit immediately. Any obstruction in the furnace air flow can cause in efficiency and even a major fire hazard.

Step 5 – when you sure that no other obstruction exist and the filter does need to change. Simple follow the manual instruction and get a new Furnace Air Filter from your local hardware store according to your furnace model. It is very important that you buy the correct one and please do not usually interchange between models. If you have a washable furnace filter just remove it and wash all the dust out and then replace it the same way you remove it.

Step 6 – the filtration is unidirectional means that the filter must be inserted so that the air flow is directed through it in the proper direction and do not put it backward. Most filters are fiberglass with one side slightly oily and this side usually faces the blower and the other side collects the filter material for disposal. If there is no indication of the correct installation in your manual description then you might simple to look at the filter itself because most models will have printed arrows direction on them to show you the way to insert the filter itself.

Step 7 – when it is done, securely closed the blower door and switch on the electric power or reactivated the gas power and set your thermostat at the appropriate temperature.
